I'm the proud owner of a Chambers oven that came with my rowhome! As best I can tell, it's a 1940's era B model. It came with everything except the service manuals so I'm at a loss as to where to start with it.

I have used one of the burners on the stove and was able to boil eggs, but I've been concerned about trying the oven and the thermowell? And then there's cleaning the rust and grease off of it (I've used some vinegar/water on it). I know I could ship it off somewhere and wait for 2 years while they refinish it...but it really looks like it's in pretty good shape overall. There's a small nick in the porcelein and some of the chrome seems to have worn off - I'm afraid of doing anything that might damage it. But I want to use it! Can anyone give me any guidance on where to start?

    Congrats!
There are a few suppliers of the manuals here on this list including Todd and the Stoveman. They can get you fixed up with all the paperwork you need.
As far as cleaning, you can check the past topics here. There have been some great discussions along those lines. Just remember to use mild cleaners, and don't use anything abrasive on the porcelain or chrome surfaces. I had good luck with Simple Green on the worst parts of my stove, and regular soap and water took care of the rest. Then I used Turtle Wax Chrome Polish and clear wax for the surfaces.
You need a lot of "elbow grease", but the effort will pay off.
